Paste your Steam profile URL or Steam ID to calculate your library's total storage requirements

Make sure your Steam profile and game details are set to public. Analysis takes ~30-60 seconds.

Why Calculate Your Steam Library Size?

A modern Steam library can quietly grow past a terabyte. Knowing how much space your games actually need — before you reinstall, upgrade a drive, or move your library to an SSD — saves you from running out of room mid-download. This tool estimates the total install size of every game you own, not just the ones currently on your disk.

    Total Storage Analysis

See the combined disk footprint of your whole library in one number, so you know exactly how big a drive you need before you commit to a full reinstall or a new gaming PC.

    Spot Storage Hogs

Identify the handful of large titles that dominate your storage. A few AAA games at 100 GB+ each usually account for most of your usage — uninstalling those frees far more space than clearing out small indie games.

    Plan Drive Upgrades

Deciding between a 1 TB and 2 TB SSD? Knowing your real library size — plus headroom for updates and future purchases — takes the guesswork out of sizing your next drive.

How to Check Your Steam Library Size

    1. Find your Steam profile

You can use either your 17-digit SteamID64 or your custom profile URL (the part after /id/ in your profile address). Paste it into the calculator above and run the analysis.

    2. Make sure your profile is public

Open your Steam profile, go to Edit Profile → Privacy Settings, and set Game Details to Public. We can only read the games you own when this is public — private profiles return no results.

    3. Review your storage breakdown

The calculator returns your estimated total library size and highlights your largest games. Want to know what that library is worth as well? Run the Steam library value calculator on the same profile.

    Understanding Steam Storage Estimates

Install sizes on Steam are a moving target. A game ships at one size, then grows as the developer adds patches, seasonal content, and higher-resolution texture options. Steam also stores shader caches and save data outside the game's core files, and many titles bundle optional high-res asset packs that can double the footprint. Because of this, our estimate reflects a typical base install — your real on-disk usage may run higher once a game is fully updated. For capacity planning, it's wise to add roughly 10–20% headroom on top of the estimate to cover updates and the temporary space Steam needs while installing.

    Steam Library Size FAQ

How is my Steam library size calculated?

We read the list of games you own from your public Steam profile, then estimate the disk space for each title using its known install footprint. Adding these together gives the total storage your full library would need if every game were installed at once.

Does the size include updates, DLC, and shader caches?

The figures are based on each game's base install size. Real on-disk usage is often larger because of post-launch updates, high-resolution texture packs, DLC, Steam's shader pre-caching, and save data. Treat the result as a planning estimate, not an exact byte count.

Why doesn't the total match the space Steam reports?

Steam only reports space for games you currently have installed, while our calculator estimates the size of every game you own. If you have a large library with most games uninstalled, our total will be much higher than what Steam shows on your drive.

Do I need to log in or install anything?

No. The calculator only reads public profile data using your Steam ID or custom URL. There is no login, no password, and nothing to install. Your Game Details privacy setting must be Public for the lookup to work.

How can I free up the most space?

Sort your library by size and uninstall the largest titles you are not actively playing — modern AAA games can each take 100 GB or more, so removing two or three usually frees more space than deleting dozens of small indie games.
